Vance Odell Lovelace (born August 9, 1963) is a former professional baseball player from the United States. He was a pitcher, which means he threw the ball to the batter, in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1988 to 1990. He played for the California Angels and the Seattle Mariners.

Lovelace was a left-handed pitcher known for throwing with power. He went to Hillsborough High School in Tampa, Florida. Other famous baseball players like Dwight Gooden and Gary Sheffield also attended this school.

Baseball Career

Vance Lovelace played in nine MLB games during his career. He always came into the game as a relief pitcher, meaning he pitched after the starting pitcher. He finished his MLB career with no wins or losses. His ERA was 5.79 over a total of 4.2 innings pitched.

Playing in the Minor Leagues

Before and after his time in MLB, Lovelace spent many years playing in Minor League Baseball. From 1981 to 1987, and again from 1991 to 1994, he played for several teams. These included teams connected to the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, California Angels, Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves, and Texas Rangers.

He also played baseball in other countries. In 1993 and 1998, Lovelace played for the Brother Elephants in the Chinese Professional Baseball League. Later, in 1997 and 1998, he played in the Northeast League for the Catskill Cougars and the New Jersey Jackals.

After Playing Baseball

After his playing career, Vance Lovelace continued to work in baseball. In 2009, he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers as a vice-president. In this role, he helped manage and oversee the team's players.

In 2014, his job changed to Special Advisor to the President. He held this important advisory position until 2016.
