Vanndale was once the most important town in Cross County. It was the "county seat" from 1886 to 1903. This means it was where the main government offices for the county were located. But then, a new town called Wynne grew quickly because of the railroad. So, the county seat was moved there. Vanndale was named after John W. Vann, who was the local postmaster. It used to be on a main road, Highway 1, but now a new road, Highway 1B, goes around it.
