History of Vanoss
How Vanoss Got Its Name
Vanoss was not always called Vanoss. The community was first named Midland. It was located a few miles away from where it is now.
When the Oklahoma Central Railroad was built, the people living in Midland decided to move their whole community. They wanted it to be right next to the new railroad tracks. This made it easier for people and goods to travel.
After moving, the community changed its name to Vanoss. This new name honored a man named S.F. Vanoss. He was a Dutch director and financier who helped fund the Oklahoma Central Railroad.
Vanoss Today
Today, not much of the original community remains. However, the Vanoss Public Schools are still very active. These schools include an elementary school, a middle school, and Vanoss High School. They continue to serve students from Vanoss and the areas around it.
