History of Venersborg
How Venersborg Started
Venersborg began as "Venner's Villas" in the late 1800s and early 1900s. A businessman named J. C. Lanerberg bought a lot of land. He got land from the government, railroad companies, and other owners. Then, he divided this land into many 10-acre plots.
Swedish Roots
To attract people, Lanerberg made special flyers. These flyers were written in Swedish. They said the area looked a lot like rural Sweden. He sent these flyers to big cities across the United States. The first people who moved here in the early 1900s were mostly from Sweden or had Swedish family.
Growth and Changes
Over time, nearby cities like Vancouver and Portland grew. This led to more people moving to Venersborg in the 1960s. The area was once covered in thick forests. In the early 1900s, many farms and orchards were started. Some of these farms still grow special, old types of apples today.
Community Life
Venersborg is still considered a rural area. It has only a few non-residential buildings. There was a store called the Venersborg Store. It opened in 2008 but closed in 2013.
