Venice is a small community in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community and a census-designated place. In 2020, about 162 people lived there.
Venice is located about 77 miles (124 km) south of New Orleans. It sits on the west bank of the Mississippi River. This community is the last place you can reach by car along the Mississippi River. It is also the end point of the Great River Road. Because of its location, people sometimes call Venice "The end of the world." The ZIP code for Venice is 70091.
Venice is famous for its many types of fish. It is a popular starting point for people who want to go offshore fishing. Many anglers head to Port Eads from here. Another well-known fishing spot nearby is Grand Isle.

History of Venice
Major Storms and Rebuilding
In 1969, Hurricane Camille caused a lot of damage to Venice. The winds were very strong, over 100 miles per hour. The community faced another big challenge 36 years later when Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005.
After Hurricane Katrina, Venice was almost completely destroyed. However, people worked hard to rebuild the community. Many homes and businesses reopened. The tall bridge leading into Venice was strong enough to survive the hurricane.
Environmental Challenges
In April 2010, Venice faced a big environmental problem. Oil from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill started to wash up on its shores. This event caused serious concerns for the local environment and fishing industry.

The main jobs in Venice are related to the water. Many people work in commercial fishing, catching fish and shrimp to sell. Sport fishing is also a big industry, with many people coming to Venice for recreational fishing trips. The community also provides services and transportation for petroleum platforms located offshore.
Education
The Plaquemines Parish School Board manages the public schools in the area. Students from Venice attend Boothville-Venice Elementary School in Boothville. For high school, students go to South Plaquemines High School in Buras. Before 2005, Boothville-Venice High School served students from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. However, Hurricane Katrina damaged the original school building.
Nunez Community College also serves the Plaquemines Parish area, offering higher education options.
