Vera is a small town in Washington County, Oklahoma, in the United States. It is a quiet place where people live and work. In 2020, about 334 people lived there.
Vera's History
The town of Vera was not always called Vera. It was first known as Evans. In November 1899, its name was changed to Vera. Then, in 1904, it officially became a town.
Vera is located about seven miles southeast of Ramona. It is also two miles east of U.S. Highway 75.
Vera began as a farming community. Farmers mainly grew corn and hay. There were many hay barns and a grain elevator along the railroad tracks east of town. Because of the large amounts of hay grown there, Vera earned a special nickname: "the Hay Capital of the World."
