Vernon is a small village located in Oneida County, New York, United States. Its name in the Oneida language is Ska-nu-sunk, which means "place of the fox." In 2020, about 1,177 people lived here.

Vernon village is found in the eastern part of the larger Town of Vernon. It sits where two main roads, Route 5 and Route 31, meet.

History of Vernon Village

The village of Vernon officially became a village on April 6, 1827. This means it got its own local government at that time.

Some important historical places in Vernon are recognized for their special history. The Vernon Center Green Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. This list helps protect important historical sites. The Vernon Methodist Church was also added to this list in 1998.
