Vic Johnson is an American rock guitarist. He is famous for playing guitar with two main bands: The BusBoys and later Sammy Hagar and the Waboritas.
Vic Johnson was inspired by the legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix. When he was in high school, he played in many bands near Colorado Springs, Colorado. He grew up in Security, Colorado. In the 1980s, he moved to Los Angeles, California. There, he joined a rock band called The BusBoys. This band was mostly made up of African-American musicians. The BusBoys became quite famous! They even appeared in the movie 48 Hrs. and performed on the TV show Saturday Night Live. They also released several albums with Arista Records.
During the 1980s, Johnson also worked on other music projects. One of these was Sound Barrier, a heavy metal band. Sound Barrier later changed its name to Total Eclipse. They played in famous clubs like the Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood. They also toured all over the United States. In the 1990s, Johnson worked as a session musician. This means he played guitar for recordings by different artists. In 1997, he joined Sammy Hagar's band for the Marching to Mars world tour. Johnson still tours with members of Hagar's Waboritas band today.
Sammy Hagar also asked Johnson to join his supergroup called Sammy Hagar and the Circle. This band includes bassist Michael Anthony and drummer Jason Bonham. Michael Anthony also played with Sammy Hagar in the famous band Van Halen.
