The museum has many interesting items from over 150 years of police work and important events in Victoria. You can see things like evidence used in a big case called the Hoddle Street massacre. There are also parts from the Russell Street bombing, which happened at the police headquarters. Another unique item is a special cast of the face of a person named Frederick Bailey Deeming.

Exploring the Museum's Collections

The Victoria Police Museum is home to many fascinating objects. These items help tell the story of law enforcement in Victoria. They show how police work has changed over time.

Famous Bushranger Armour

One of the most famous things at the museum is its collection of armour. This armour belonged to the Kelly gang, a group of bushrangers. A bushranger was like an outlaw in the Australian bush.

The museum used to have a piece of armour from the famous bushranger Ned Kelly. In 2002, this piece was given to the State Library of Victoria. This helped to complete a full set of Ned Kelly's armour. Other parts came from Melbourne Museum and Scienceworks.

The museum still has Australia's largest collection of Kelly Gang armour. This includes the full sets worn by other gang members. You can see the armour of Dan Kelly and Steve Hart. It's a rare chance to see these historical items up close.
