Vida is a small, friendly place in Lane County, Oregon, United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own city government like a big city. Instead, it's managed by the county. Vida is located right along Oregon Route 126 and the beautiful McKenzie River.

Discovering Vida's Past

How Vida Got Its Name

Vida wasn't always called Vida! It was first known as "Gate Creek." However, this caused some confusion because there was another place called "Gates Creek" in Washington County. To avoid mix-ups, people decided to change the name.

The new name, Vida, was chosen in a very special way. It was named after the daughter of the local postmaster, Francis A. Pepiot. The post office in Vida officially opened its doors on April 12, 1898.

Famous Landmarks in Vida

The Historic Goodpasture Bridge

One of the most famous sights in Vida is the historic Goodpasture Bridge. This amazing structure is a covered bridge, which means it has a roof and sides, just like a building! Covered bridges were built this way to protect the wooden parts from rain and snow, making them last longer.

The Goodpasture Bridge is very important. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. This means it's recognized as a special place in American history. It's also the second-longest covered bridge in all of Oregon, making it a true landmark for the community.
