Viesīte is a small town in the western part of Jēkabpils Municipality in Latvia. It is located in the Selonia region. In 2024, about 1,510 people lived there.
Viesīte is a typical Selonia town, found among the hills in the center of the district. Selonia is a special cultural and historical area. It borders other regions like Latgale, Zemgale, Vidzeme, and also the country of Lithuania.
The town was once known by names like Eckengraf or Azu village. Viesīte is located where important roads meet. These roads connect it to cities like Jēkabpils (32 km away) and Riga (130 km away). The border with Lithuania is also quite close, just 31 km away.
The coat of arms for Viesīte shows five golden acorns on a purple background. These acorns are a symbol of strength and power. The flag of Viesīte uses the colors of the Selonia district flag: green, white, and red. The town's coat of arms is placed right in the middle of the flag.
