Villa Heights is a cool neighborhood in Roanoke, Virginia. It's located in the northwest part of Roanoke, just north of a big road called U.S. 460 (also known as Melrose Avenue). Villa Heights shares its borders with several other neighborhoods. To the west, you'll find Washington Heights. To the east, it's next to Melrose-Rugby. North of Villa Heights are Fairland, Miller Court/Arrowood, and Westview Terrace. Finally, to the south, it borders Shenandoah West and South Washington Heights. Back in the year 2000, about 2,840 people lived in Villa Heights.

Villa Heights has an interesting past! It was first planned out and divided into smaller pieces of land in 1910. At that time, it was one of the very first suburbs of Roanoke. A suburb is a residential area located just outside a city.

When Villa Heights was first created, it had the feel of a traditional neighborhood from the early 1900s. Over time, it changed and started to look more like a typical modern suburb. This means the types of homes and how the area was used slowly evolved.

How Villa Heights Got Its Name

The neighborhood gets its unique name from a historic house called Villa Heights. This old house was built in the early 1800s. It was designed in the Federal and Classical revival styles, which were popular at the time. The house was first owned by a person named Elijah McClanahan.
