Villa Juárez is a town and a municipality in the central part of the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí. It was started in 1643 and was first called Santa Gertrudis de Carbonera. In 1928, its name changed to Villa Juárez. This new name honors Benito Juárez, who was a very respected president of México.

Location of Villa Juárez
Villa Juárez is located at about 1,100 meters (3,600 feet) above sea level. You can find it at 22°19′18″N 100°15′55″W. The municipality includes 18 small villages. Some of these villages are El Granjenal, Palo Seco, and Puerta del Río.
Neighboring Areas
Villa Juárez is surrounded by other places. To the north, you'll find Cerritos. To the east and south, it borders Rio Verde. To the west, it is next to San Nicolás Tolentino.
History
The town began in 1643. It was first named Santa Gertrudis de Carbonera. As more people moved there, its name was changed in 1928. It became Villa Juárez to honor a famous Mexican president.
Economy
Farming and Production
For a long time, farming was the main way people made money in Villa Juárez. Farmers mostly grew hot peppers, especially serrano peppers, and corn. Recently, it has been harder for farmers to grow as much. This is because they don't have enough money to invest in their farms.
Mining History
In the 1800s and 1900s, sulfur mining was also important. This mining happened in a place called Guaxcama.

Religious Traditions
Most people in Villa Juárez are part of the Catholic faith. Their biggest tradition is a special carnival. This carnival honors their patron saint, Gertrude the Great, also known as "Santa Gertrudis".
The Santa Gertrudis Carnival
The carnival starts about two weeks before November 16, which is the main day. It has many booths where people sell things. You can find handmade items, ceramics, local foods, drinks, and games. There are also fun rides for everyone. A stage is set up for shows, traditional dances, music, and plays.
Jaripeos and Visitors
Besides the carnival, Villa Juárez also hosts events called "Jaripeos". These events involve riding bulls. Many visitors come from other parts of San Luis Potosí and from the United States. They come especially during summer and winter holidays. Many people who used to live here also return for family events like weddings.
Local Communities and Music
Some indigenous groups, like the Pame (Xiu) people, still live in this area. Many people from Villa Juárez have moved to the United States. Because of this, most people still living in the town are children, middle-aged women, and older citizens. Villa Juárez is also known for some famous musical bands, like Grupo Bryndis and Agua Azul.
