The Château de Villers-en-Ouche
In Villers-en-Ouche, there is a large, old house called the Château de Villers-en-Ouche. A "château" is a French word for a big country house or castle. This château was first built a very long time ago, in the late 1400s.
Château History and Design
The château was rebuilt in 1610 by a family named "La Chapelle." The main part of the building has a special type of roof called a Mansard roof. This roof has slopes on all four sides. It is decorated with five windows that stick out from the roof. These windows replaced an older, taller roof that was damaged by fire in 1741.
Château Gardens and Awards
The land around the château includes a beautiful French-style garden. There is also a large park that is about 10 hectares in size. To give you an idea, 10 hectares is like 10 football fields! In 2009, the château received a special award, the Emile Garcin-Paris Prize. This award was given for the great work done on the pigeon house, which was built in the 15th century.
