Violeta Rosa Ester Vidaurre Heiremans (born September 12, 1928 – died June 1, 2021), known as Violeta Vidaurre, was a famous Chilean actress. She had a very long career in television and theater. She played more than 120 different characters!

For 30 years, Violeta was one of the most important theater actresses at the Catholic University's Experimental Theater [es]. She worked with many talented directors and actors, including Víctor Jara. In 1963, she took on the role of Laura Larraín in the popular play La pérgola de las flores [es]. This play became a huge hit!

Violeta also became very well-known on television. She starred in comedies like Juntos se pasa mejor [es] (1965) and Juani en Sociedad [es] (1967–1972). She also appeared in the first TV version of Martín Rivas [es] in 1970. After a difficult time in Chile's history, she returned to TV. She played supporting roles in popular telenovelas such as Sol tardío [es], La Colorina (1975–1978), and De cara al mañana [es] (1982).

She also acted in many other famous telenovelas. Some of these include La represa [es], La torre 10 [es], La dama del balcón [es], La Villa [es], Romané, and Pampa Ilusión.

In 2015, Violeta was the only woman nominated for the National Prize for Performing and Audiovisual Arts. This award celebrates the best actors and artists. She also received many special honors and awards for her amazing career that same year.

Her last performances were in TV series and independent theater plays. She was always happy to be honored at these events.

Her Early Years and Family

Violeta Vidaurre was born to Víctor Vidaurre Coo and Rosa Violeta Heiremans Brockman. Her family had roots in Belgium and Germany. She was the oldest of three children. She was also a cousin to the famous doctor and writer Luis Alberto Heiremans [es].

Violeta often said she was very loved by her parents, especially her dad. She went to schools like Colegio Sagrado Corazón. Even as a child, she loved acting. She and her cousin Luis Alberto would write and perform plays at her grandfather's house.

Violeta got married at 19 to Ramón Salgado Suárez. She didn't study theater right away, even though she loved it. When she was 28, her cousin Luis Alberto convinced her to study acting. She then started filling in for other actresses, and acting quickly became her true passion.

Violeta Vidaurre's Acting Career

Violeta studied acting at the Academy of Dramatic Art [es] at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. She graduated with the highest honors! She studied with other future stars like Héctor Noguera. She quickly joined the Experimental Theater group. Her first big role was in the play Look Homeward, Angel in 1959.

After this, she became a regular actress with the Experimental Theater. She performed in many classic plays. These included Much Ado About Nothing, Dialogues of the Carmelites [es], and Le Bourgeois gentilhomme.

In 1961, she was part of the first show of La pérgola de las flores [es]. She played Mrs. Laura Larraín. She said that at first, she was in the choir, but then the director chose her to replace another actress. The play became incredibly popular and even toured internationally to Argentina, Mexico, and Europe.

Violeta also joined other theater groups, like Los cuatro. She worked with famous people like Víctor Jara. She also performed in plays like Antigone. In 1972, she was invited to perform in the Bim bam bum show at the Teatro Opera.

She traveled a lot for her acting, performing in countries like Argentina, Mexico, France, and Spain. Some of the plays she toured with were Tartuffe and Las chiquillas van a la pelea.

Her Television Work

Violeta started her TV career on Canal 13. This helped her become even more famous. In the late 1960s, she joined the main cast of TV actors. She had great success in daily series like Juntos se pasa mejor [es] and Juani en Sociedad [es]. She also played Doña Bernarda Cordero in Martín Rivas [es].

Later, she moved to Televisión Nacional de Chile (TVN). There, she appeared in many popular telenovelas. These included De cara al mañana [es], La represa [es], La torre 10 [es], and Mi nombre es Lara [es].

In the 2000s, she joined the cast of director Vicente Sabatini [es]. She acted in hit telenovelas like Romané, Pampa Ilusión, and El circo de las Montini [es]. She also appeared in youth miniseries like Don Floro [es] and Xfea2 [es].

Violeta had close friendships with other important people in theater and TV. These included producer Sonia Fuchs and actresses Marés González [es] and María Elena Gertner.

In 2012, she was on the comedy show Desfachatados [es]. She did a funny parody called Mamá a los 80.

Later Years and Legacy

As she got older, Violeta acted less often. But she still made special appearances in TV series like 12 días que estremecieron Chile [es] and Lo que callamos las mujeres. Her last TV role was in 2014 on Chipe libre. In theater, she performed in Las chiquillas van a la pelea (2015) and Esperanzo la carroza (2016).

In 2015, she was the only woman nominated for the National Prize for Performing and Audiovisual Arts. She also received many tributes and awards for her long and successful career in acting.

In 2017, Violeta moved to a nursing home due to health issues. She passed away on June 1, 2021, at the age of 92.
