Virgil Zwicker (born June 26, 1982) is an American professional mixed martial artist. He competes in the Heavyweight division. Zwicker has fought for major organizations like Bellator MMA, Strikeforce, and KSW. He started his professional career in 2003.

Early Life and Background
Virgil Zwicker grew up on the San Pasqual Indian Reservation in North County, San Diego. His father was a truck driver, and his mother worked hard to support their large family. Virgil has eleven brothers and sisters.
He is a member of the Kumeyaay-Ipai tribe. Growing up, there were not many chances for organized sports. However, Virgil was a talented football player in Pop Warner leagues. He was known for hitting very hard, even though he was a smaller player. His older brother was a Golden Gloves boxer, and he helped Virgil with his fighting skills.
Mixed Martial Arts Career
Starting His Career
Virgil Zwicker's first professional fight happened with only two weeks' notice. He won against Denis Hall very quickly, in less than a minute. This win was by TKO (Technical Knockout). After this, he built an impressive record of 9 wins and 1 loss. He even defeated Ovince St. Preux, who later became a well-known fighter in UFC and Strikeforce.
Fighting in Strikeforce
Zwicker then joined Strikeforce, a big MMA organization. His first fight there was against Lavar Johnson. Zwicker lost this fight in the first round by knockout.
He bounced back in his next fight against Brett Albee. Zwicker won this match by TKO in the first round. Later, he faced Guto Inocente and lost by a decision from the judges.
Competing in KSW
On December 7, 2013, Zwicker fought Mike Hayes at KSW 25. KSW is a major fighting promotion in Poland. Virgil won this fight by knockout in the first round. This exciting performance earned him the "Fight of the Night" award.
Time in Bellator MMA
Zwicker signed a contract with Bellator, another big MMA organization. His first fight for Bellator was against Nick Moghadden on September 13, 2013. He won this fight by TKO in the first round.
In his second Bellator fight, Zwicker faced Linton Vassell. He lost this match by submission in the first round.
Zwicker later fought UFC veteran Houston Alexander. Their first fight ended in a majority draw. This happened because Alexander was penalized a point for illegal headbutting. They had a rematch on January 16, 2015. Zwicker won the second fight by a split decision from the judges.
He then faced Razak Al-Hassan and won by knockout in the first round. After that, he fought Brian Rogers and lost by submission. Zwicker's next fight was against Dan Charles. He won this match by TKO in the second round.
World Fighting Championship Akhmat
Virgil Zwicker signed a three-fight deal with World Fighting Championship Akhmat. This is a fighting promotion based in Chechnya, Russia. He made his debut for them on May 21, 2017.
Kickboxing Career
Virgil Zwicker has also competed in Muay Thai kickboxing. His first kickboxing match was on April 6, 2013. He fought Sergio Piqué and lost by a split decision. He had a rematch with Piqué on February 15, 2014.
