The Jacobite Rebellion and Its Impact

The 4th Viscount Strathallan supported the Jacobite rebellion. This was a series of uprisings in Great Britain. People wanted to bring the Stuart family back to the throne. Because of his support, his title was taken away in 1746. This act was called an attainder. It meant his family could not inherit the title.

  • James Drummond, de jure 5th Viscount Strathallan (1722 – 22 June 1765)
  • James Drummond, de jure 6th Viscount Strathallan (around 1752 – 10 December 1775)
  • General Andrew John Drummond, de jure 7th Viscount Strathallan (1758 – 20 January 1814)

Restoring the Title

In 1824, a special law was passed by Parliament. This law reversed the attainder from 1746. This meant the title could be passed down again.

The later holders of this title are also listed under the Earl of Perth article.
