Vivienne L’Ecuyer Ming (born October 19, 1971) is an American expert in brain science and artificial intelligence. She studies how the brain works and how to create smart computer programs. In 2017, the BBC named her one of the "100 Women". She was also recognized by the Financial Times for her leadership.

Education and Early Life

Vivienne Ming has often shared stories about her early struggles with school. These challenges led her to leave college for a time. She faced many difficult times, including periods of depression and not having a home.

After ten years, she returned to college. In 2000, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree. She studied cognitive neuroscience at the University of California at San Diego. She graduated with honors. In 2016, she gave a special speech at her old university.

She continued her studies at Carnegie Mellon University. She earned her Master of Science degree in 2003. In 2006, she completed her PhD in Psychology. She also studied computational neuroscience there.

Career and Research Work

After finishing her PhD, Vivienne Ming worked at Stanford University and University of California, Berkeley. She was a research fellow and later a visiting scholar. She has worked with different groups to improve education and health policies.

She helped start a group called Socos. This group gives advice on artificial intelligence, neuroscience, and making schools better. Vivienne Ming has shown that the ways companies hire people do not always predict how well they will do at work. She also worked with Accenture to help them train their employees to be more creative.

Artificial Intelligence in Education

Vivienne Ming has published research about using Artificial intelligence (AI) in education. She created a tool called "Muse." This tool uses machine learning to help parents. It suggests activities based on research to help kids be creative. It also helps them feel motivated and understand their own feelings.

Her research has shown that certain skills are very important for a good life. These skills include thinking about how you think (metacognition). They also include social and emotional skills, creativity, and curiosity. These skills can greatly affect a person's health, how much they achieve, their education, and how happy they are.

Awards and Recognitions

Vivienne Ming has given many talks around the world. In May 2017, she gave a TEDx Talk. She spoke about how people can become better versions of themselves. She has also spoken about machine learning at Singularity University in Brazil.

In 2018, she talked about artificial intelligence and neural networks. She spoke at the Royal Irish Academy and the Royal Society. She has been a guest on the PC Magazine podcast Fast Forward. Her work has also been featured on BBC Radio 4 and NPR.

As mentioned, the BBC included her in their "Top 100 Women 2017" list. The Financial Times also recognized her as a leader. She has received many other awards and honors for her important work.
