About Vivienne Roche
Vivienne Roche was born in Cork, Ireland, in 1953. Her father was an engineer. She went to school in Cork. Later, she studied art at the Crawford School of Art from 1970 to 1974. She also studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, finishing in 1975. In 2006, she received a special award from University College Cork.
Becoming a Sculptor
Vivienne started her career as an artist. Soon, she became a sculptor, creating three-dimensional artworks. She is now one of Ireland's most important sculptors.

Vivienne helped start the National Sculpture Factory in Cork. This is a special place where sculptors can work. She was the leader of this factory from 1989 to 1997. She also served on the national Arts Council from 1993 to 1998. This council helps support art in Ireland. She was also part of the group that ran Cork Institute of Technology.
Vivienne is a member of Aosdána, a group of Irish artists. She is also a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy, which promotes art in Ireland. She helps guide the Hugh Lane Gallery and the Dublin City Gallery. Vivienne continues to help shape how art is supported in Ireland.
