Vladimir Štimac is a Serbian former professional basketball player. He was born on August 25, 1987. He is also involved in politics and activism. Standing at 2.11 meters (about 6 feet 11 inches) tall, he played as a center in basketball. Štimac also played for the Serbian national team.

Playing Basketball: Vladimir Štimac's Career
Vladimir Štimac started his basketball journey with the youth team of Beovuk 72. He then spent two years playing in Lithuania and one year in Latvia. During his first year abroad, he played for the reserve team of Žalgiris in Lithuania. A reserve team is like a training team for younger players. He later joined their main team.
Early Professional Teams
To get more playing time, Štimac moved to Valmiera in Latvia. There, he was chosen as the best player for the 2007–08 season in the SEB BBL. In 2010, he played for the Orlando Magic in a summer league. Later that year, he signed with Ventspils in Latvia, and then with Nymburk in the Czech Republic. He helped Nymburk win the Czech League and Czech Cup in 2011.
Playing in Turkey and Spain
In 2011, Štimac signed with Olin Edirne Basket in Turkey. He had a great season, averaging almost 15 points and 10 rebounds per game. He then played for Banvit in the 2012–13 season. In 2013, he moved to Spain to play for Unicaja Málaga. After one season, he joined Bayern Munich in Germany in 2014.
Returning to Serbia and Other Teams
In 2015, Štimac briefly played for Estudiantes in Spain before returning to Crvena zvezda in Serbia. He helped Crvena zvezda win the ABA League and the Serbian League in 2016. He then played for Beşiktaş and Anadolu Efes in Turkey. With Anadolu Efes, he won the Turkish Cup in 2018.
In 2018, he joined Türk Telekom. In 2019, he signed a short contract with Fenerbahçe, another big Turkish team. He returned to Crvena zvezda again in late 2019. In 2020, he played for the Qingdao Eagles in China. In 2021, he joined Bahçeşehir Koleji in Turkey. Later in 2021, he went back to China to play for the Ningbo Rockets. In a game in December 2021, he scored an amazing 40 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, and made 7 assists! He finished his career playing for Sigortam.net İTÜ BB and Guangxi Rhinos in 2023.
Representing Serbia: National Team Success
Vladimir Štimac has proudly represented his country, Serbia, in many international basketball competitions.
Youth Team Achievements
- He won a gold medal with the Serbian Under-20 National Team at the 2007 U20 European Championship.
- He also won a gold medal at the 2005 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship.
Senior Team Medals
- Štimac was part of the Serbian national team that won the silver medal at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
- He also won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In the final game, Serbia played against the United States.
- In 2017, he won another silver medal at the EuroBasket 2017 tournament.

After his basketball career, Vladimir Štimac became involved in politics and activism. An activist is someone who works to bring about social or political change.
Getting Involved in Politics
In October 2023, Štimac shared that he was thinking about running in the Belgrade City Assembly election. This is an election for local government in the city of Belgrade. He supports new technologies like cryptocurrency and works against unfair treatment of people. He was elected to the City Assembly of Belgrade.
Activism and Protests
Štimac has been active in protests against a lithium mine project by a company called Rio Tinto. He believes it could harm the environment. Because of his activism, a group called "Kopaćemo" called him an "eco-terrorist." Štimac then filed a legal complaint against this group.
In November 2024, Štimac announced he was starting a citizens' group called "Nacionalna Snaga." He also held a 24-hour protest in front of the Presidency of Serbia. He asked for people in power to take responsibility for a tragic accident at the Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse, where 16 people died.
