He held a very high position in the Soviet Union government. He served as a first deputy premier, which means he was one of the top leaders helping the Prime Minister. This was during the time Mikhail Gorbachev was the main leader of the Soviet Union.

Early Life and Education

Vsevolod Murakhovsky came from a Ukrainian family. He was born in a village called Holubivka, near Kreminna in the Luhansk Oblast region. This was on 20 October 1926. He went to college at the Stavropol Pedagogical Institute. He finished his studies there in 1954.

Political Career and Leadership Roles

Murakhovsky served in the Soviet army from 1944 to 1950. In 1946, he joined the Communist Party, which was the ruling party in the Soviet Union. After his army service, he worked as a Communist Party official in the Stavropol Region. This was a long period, from 1954 to 1985.

Key Positions in the Communist Party

He held several important leadership jobs within the party. From 1970 to 1974, he was the first secretary of the Stavropol Party gorkom. Later, from 1975 to 1978, he became the first secretary of the Karachai-Cherkessia Party obkom. He also led the Stavropol Komsomol Committee, which was a youth organization linked to the Communist Party.

In 1978, Murakhovsky took over a big role from Mikhail Gorbachev. He became the first secretary of the party's regional committee in Stavropol. This happened when Gorbachev moved to a higher position in Moscow. By 1981, Murakhovsky became a full member of the party's central committee. This was a very powerful group that made important decisions for the entire country.

Role as Deputy Prime Minister

In November 1985, Mikhail Gorbachev appointed Murakhovsky to a very high government position. He became one of three first deputy premiers. This was his first major role in the Soviet government itself. His main responsibility was in charge of agriculture and related issues. He also led a state committee called Gosagroprom, which focused on the farming industry. This committee was later closed down in 1989 because it was not working as well as planned. Murakhovsky's term as deputy premier also ended in 1989.
