WJZ-TV began its journey in 1948. Back then, it was known as WAAM-TV. In 1957, its name changed to WJZ. The letters "WJZ" were once used by a station in New York City. That station is now called WABC-TV.
From ABC to CBS
When WJZ-TV first started, it was connected to the ABC network. This lasted for many years. On January 2, 1995, WJZ-TV made a big switch. It became a CBS network station.
News Programs Over Time
For a long time, WJZ-TV's news shows were called Eyewitness News. But on October 23, 2017, this changed. The news programs are now known as WJZ News. The station also uses a logo that looks like the one for WBZ-TV in Boston.

Changes to Morning News
In August 2018, the morning news team grew. On August 10, Nicole Baker joined the morning show. She works with Linh Bui and Marty Bass.
Just ten days later, on August 20, 2018, the morning news got even longer. It now starts at 4:30 a.m. and runs until 7 a.m. WJZ-TV was the last station in Baltimore to start its morning news this early.
New Evening News Time
On September 9, 2019, WJZ-TV added a new news show. This newscast starts at 7 p.m. Because of this, the CBS Evening News moved to an earlier time. It now airs at 6:30 p.m.
