The Wade Park District is a special historical area in Cleveland, Ohio. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which means it's an important place with a lot of history. This district is found in the University Circle neighborhood on the east side of the city. It covers about 650 acres and is bordered by Chester Avenue, Euclid Avenue, East Boulevard, and E. 105th Street. Inside this district, you'll find several important cultural places and the beautiful Wade Park itself.

A Look Back: How Wade Park Began

A man named Jeptha Wade came to Cleveland in the 1850s. He was already quite rich from the telegraph business. He became even wealthier by investing in steel and banking. Like other rich people of his time, such as Marcus Hanna and John D. Rockefeller, Wade used his money to help build cultural and educational places.

In 1882, Jeptha Wade gave 63 acres of his land to the city. He wanted this land to be used to create a park, which was then named in his honor. Today, this land that Wade gave away is home to some of Cleveland's most famous attractions.

Exploring Wade Park: Art and Nature

Even though Wade Park itself isn't part of the official historic listing, it was created from the land Jeptha Wade donated. He specifically wanted part of this land to be used for an art museum.

Today, two of the most well-known spots in Wade Park are the Cleveland Museum of Art and the pretty Wade Park Lagoon next to it. Both of these are located at the main entrance of the park, at the southern tip of the historic district.
