Wafande's Life and Music
Wafande grew up in Freetown Christiania, a special neighborhood in Copenhagen, Denmark. When he was 8 years old, his family moved to France.
For some years, Wafande was very good at basketball. He also focused on his studies. But when it was time to choose, Wafande picked music over being a professional basketball player. He said, "I couldn't do basketball practice five times a week while out playing gigs on the weekends."
Early Success
Choosing music was a great decision for Wafande. So far, he has earned three "platinum" and two "gold" awards for his songs. This means his music has sold a lot of copies! He also has two albums that reached the top ten charts, and one of them went "gold."
Wafande's first big hit song was in 2011. It was called 'Gi’ Mig Et Smil' (Give Me a Smile). This song became number one in the summer and went platinum. Other popular songs followed, like 'En Anden' (Another One) which went platinum, and 'Uartig' (Naughty) which went double platinum. His first album, 'Du Ved Det' (You Know It), also went gold.
New Projects and TV
In 2015, Wafande released an EP called "Grand Danois." An EP is like a mini-album with fewer songs. The song "Himlen For Mig Selv" (Heaven For Myself) from this EP became very popular. It was played a lot on Danish radio station P3 and stayed at the top of the charts for many weeks.
That same year, Wafande started a new music group called Black Dylan with a producer named Nuplex. Their music became popular internationally, even being played on BBC Radio 2. They have performed at famous places like Ronnie Scott's in London and the London Jazz Festival.
Wafande has also been a coach on the TV show Voice Junior for six seasons. This show helps young singers. Being on TV has made him even more well-known and loved in Denmark.
In 2019, Wafande started a new project with his friend, singer Shaka Loveless. He also released international songs with the producer duo Hyperclap. Wafande has traveled to Europe, the USA, and the Bahamas to work on new music.
Helping Others
Wafande also cares about helping people. He has worked with many charities. These include the Red Cross, WWF, and groups that help people experiencing homelessness or children with cancer.
