Damage to a Portrait
On October 19, 2024, something happened to Lord Browne's portrait. The portrait was in Belfast City Hall. It was taken off a wall and the glass frame was broken. This happened during an event for an Irish language group.
Later, an employee of a political party admitted they were involved. This person then resigned from their job. The police are looking into the damage. They are treating it as a hate crime. The artist who painted the portrait is from Israel. The leader of the DUP, Gavin Robinson, said the damage was "a disgrace." He suggested it could be due to different reasons, including hatred or destruction. Belfast City Council is checking the damage. They are also looking into how it happened.
