Walter Peter Stanowski (born April 28, 1919 – died June 28, 2015) was a Canadian ice hockey player. He played as a defenceman, which is a player who helps protect the team's goal. Walter was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Stanowski's Hockey Career
Walter Stanowski began his professional hockey career in 1939. He joined the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League (NHL). He quickly became a key player for the team.
Big Achievements
In 1941, Walter was chosen for the NHL All-Star Team. This meant he was recognized as one of the best players in the league. He also helped the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup four times. The Stanley Cup is the biggest championship trophy in ice hockey!
Moving Teams
After the 1947-48 season, Stanowski was traded to the New York Rangers. He played for the Rangers until he retired from hockey in 1951.
Later Life
Walter Stanowski lived in a retirement home near Toronto in his later years. He passed away on June 28, 2015, at the age of 96.
