Walnut is a small town located in Tippah County, Mississippi, in the United States. In 2020, about 704 people lived there. It is a quiet community with a rich history.

History of Walnut
Walnut was first started in 1872. It was built on land that belonged to an early settler named Henry Hopkins. Because of this, the town was first called "Hopkins."
However, just four years later, in 1876, the town's name was changed. It became known as "Walnut," which is the name it still has today.
Walnut's Location and Area
Walnut is found in the western part of Mississippi. It is located west of a city called Corinth. You can find Walnut where two main roads meet: U.S. Route 72 and Mississippi Highway 15.
The older part of Walnut's business area is along Mississippi Highway 354. This road is just east of where it crosses MS 15. The town is also only a few miles south of the border between Mississippi and Tennessee.
Walnut is about the same distance from Memphis and The Shoals in Alabama. This means it's roughly in the middle of these two larger areas.
The town covers a total area of about 5.4 square miles (14.12 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a very small part being water.
