History of Walnut

Walnut was first started in 1872. It was built on land that belonged to an early settler named Henry Hopkins. Because of this, the town was first called "Hopkins."

However, just four years later, in 1876, the town's name was changed. It became known as "Walnut," which is the name it still has today.

Walnut's Location and Area

Walnut is found in the western part of Mississippi. It is located west of a city called Corinth. You can find Walnut where two main roads meet: U.S. Route 72 and Mississippi Highway 15.

The older part of Walnut's business area is along Mississippi Highway 354. This road is just east of where it crosses MS 15. The town is also only a few miles south of the border between Mississippi and Tennessee.
