Walter Aston, 8th Lord Aston of Forfar (born October 10, 1732 – died July 29, 1805) was the son of Edward Aston and Anne Bayley. He became a noble in Scotland.

In 1763, Walter inherited a special title called Lord Aston of Forfar. He became the 8th person to hold this title. He received it after his cousin, Walter Aston, 7th Lord Aston of Forfar, passed away without children. This title was part of the peerage of Scotland, which means it was a noble rank passed down through families.

Life as a Noble

Before he became a Lord, Walter Aston worked as a watchmaker. This was his job before he inherited his family's noble title.

Scottish nobles, also known as Peers, had a special right. They could vote to choose 16 Representative Peers. These chosen Peers would then represent Scotland in the House of Lords in London.

In 1768, there were some questions about Lord Aston's right to vote. His name was not on a special list called the Union Roll. This meant his claim to the title of Lord Aston of Forfar was not fully confirmed yet.

A year later, in 1769, King George III gave Lord Aston a yearly payment of £300. In the official document for this payment, King George called him "Walter, Lord Aston, Baron of Forfar." This helped confirm his noble status.

A magazine called The Gentleman's Magazine described him as "an inoffensive man of rather a convivial turn." This means he was a kind and harmless person who enjoyed social gatherings and good company.

Lord Aston of Forfar passed away in London on July 29, 1805. He was 72 years old. He was buried at the Grosvenor Chapel in London.

Family Life

Walter Aston married Anne Hutchinson on May 28, 1766. Anne was the daughter of Peter Hutchinson. She passed away in 1808 and was buried at Bath Abbey.

Walter and Anne had three children:

  • Elizabeth Jane, who sadly died when she was young.
  • Walter, who became a Church of England Clergyman. He later took over his father's title as the 9th Lord Aston of Forfar.
  • William Bailey, who was lost at sea.
