Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Walter Mummery was a professional ice hockey player. He was born on September 10, 1893. We don't know when he passed away. Walter played for the Quebec Bulldogs team from 1914 to 1917. His brother, Harry, was also a professional hockey player.

Walter Mummery's Hockey Journey

Walter Mummery was born in Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. His family later moved to Brandon, Manitoba, in Canada. In 1913, Walter began his hockey career. He joined a team called the Brandon Wheat Cities. This team played in the Manitoba Hockey League.

The next hockey season, in 1914–1915, Walter joined a new team. He became a player for the Quebec Bulldogs. This team was part of the National Hockey Association (NHA). He played with the Bulldogs until the end of the 1916–1917 season.

After that season, the NHA changed into a new league. It became the National Hockey League (NHL). The Quebec Bulldogs team did not play in the NHL right away. So, Walter Mummery was moved to the Montreal Canadiens team.

In December 1917, Walter was loaned to another team. This team was the Montreal Wanderers. However, he never got to play a game for them. Their home arena sadly burned down before he could join them on the ice.

Walter did not play professional hockey again until 1919–1920. He then joined a team in Edmonton for one season. This team was part of the Big 4 League. By that time, the Quebec Bulldogs were playing in the NHL. Walter's playing rights were still with Quebec, but he did not go back to play for them.
