Wampusirpi (pronounced wam-poo-SEER-pee) is a special area in Honduras. It is called a municipality. This means it is like a local government district. Wampusirpi is part of the Gracias a Dios region in Honduras.
This municipality has 26 smaller communities. The main town is also called Wampusirpi. It is the biggest place in the area.

Where is Wampusirpi Located?
Wampusirpi is in the western part of the Gracias a Dios region. It is west of Puerto Lempira, which is the capital city of the region.
Wampusirpi shares its borders with other places. To the north, it borders Ahuas. To the west, it borders Gualaco. Wampusirpi also shares a border with the country of Nicaragua to the south.
Who Lives in Wampusirpi?
In 2013, about 5,746 people lived in Wampusirpi. Most of these people are Indigenous. This means they are the original people of this land.
About 71% of the people are from the Miskito group. Another 15% are from the Mayangna group. These are two important Indigenous communities. Other people living there include Mestizo (people of mixed heritage), White, and Afro-Honduran or Black people.
How People Live in Wampusirpi
Life in Wampusirpi can be quite challenging. It is not easy to get to this area. There are very few roads.
Most people travel by flying in small planes. Or they use boats on the Patuca River. This river is a main way to get around. Inside Wampusirpi, people mostly use rivers to travel between communities. Only the main town of Wampusirpi has some roads.
Many homes in Wampusirpi do not have electricity. Some people use diesel generators for power. This shows that the area is still developing.
