Wan Guchan (simplified Chinese: 万古蟾; traditional Chinese: 萬古蟾; pinyin: Wàn Gǔchán; born January 18, 1900 – died November 19, 1995) was a famous Chinese filmmaker. He was born in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, China. Wan Guchan was one of the amazing Wan brothers who helped start the Chinese animation industry.

Starting Out in Animation

Wan Guchan worked closely with his twin brother, Wan Laiming. They did many animation projects together. They loved trying new things in the world of cartoons.

Amazing Animation Ideas

Throughout his career, Wan Guchan was a big help to his brother, Wan Laiming. He assisted him in all their major film projects. In 1958, Wan Guchan came up with a cool new way to make animations. This was a special paper-cut method. You can see this technique in the cartoon called Pigsy Eats Watermelon.

Wan Guchan also helped create the famous 1964 movie Havoc in Heaven. This film was a huge success. It helped China get noticed around the world for its amazing animation.
