Education and Career
Wang-Chiew Tan studied computer science in college. She earned her first degree at the National University of Singapore. Later, she got her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. A Ph.D. is a very advanced degree.
After her studies, she became a professor. She taught computer science at the University of California, Santa Cruz. This was from 2002 onwards. For a couple of years, from 2010 to 2012, she worked at IBM Research - Almaden. This was a research job.

Wang-Chiew Tan is a highly respected scientist. In 2015, she received a special honor. She was named a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery. This award is given to top computer scientists.
