Warren Stacey (born Warren Jituboh) is a talented British singer from London. He became well-known after appearing on the TV show Popstars. This show created the famous pop band Hear'Say. Even though Warren didn't join Hear'Say, he still got a big record deal with Def Jam Recordings. In March 2002, he released his first song, "My Girl, My Girl". It became a hit, reaching number 26 on the UK Singles Chart.
Warren's Musical Journey
Warren Stacey started singing at a young age in a church choir. This was his first experience performing music. In 2001, while working at a bank in London, he decided to try out for Popstars. This reality television show was forming a new pop group called Hear'Say.
Warren impressed the judges with his singing. He sang "Angels" by Robbie Williams. This performance helped him move on to the "boot camp" stage of the competition. During boot camp, contestants had to show off their skills.
On the second day of boot camp, Warren chose to sing a hymn instead of a pop song. One of the judges, Nigel Lythgoe, explained that the final band would not sing hymns. He also said that at this stage, judges were looking for small reasons to eliminate people. However, Warren's performance in a group song, "Monday, Monday" by The Mamas & the Papas, was good enough to keep him in the competition for another day.
Warren was eventually eliminated from Popstars on the fourth day of boot camp. The judges felt his style was "more gospel-influenced." They were looking for a sound that was "altogether more poppy." Warren first thought about forming a singing group with two other contestants who were eliminated that same day.
However, within weeks of leaving Popstars, Warren signed a solo deal with Def Jam Recordings. They flew him to Los Angeles to work on his first song. He wrote and recorded "My Girl My Girl" with a team called Red Zone. In December 2001, Warren performed alongside Hear'Say and other Popstars contestants, Liberty, on the Smash Hits tour.
His debut single, "My Girl My Girl," came out in March 2002. It reached number 26 on the UK Singles Chart. Many people compared Warren's sound to another British R&B singer, Craig David. In April, Warren was a supporting artist at MTV's Five Night Stand event. He then went on to support the famous group Destiny's Child on their UK tour in June.
