Warriors: Omen of the Stars is the fourth big story arc in the popular Warriors book series. It's all about wild cats who live in different groups called Clans. This arc has six books, published by HarperCollins between 2009 and 2012. The books are: The Fourth Apprentice, Fading Echoes, Night Whispers, Sign of the Moon, The Forgotten Warrior, and The Last Hope.

The stories were written by "Erin Hunter", which is a pen name used by several authors. These include Kate Cary, Cherith Baldry, and Tui Sutherland, along with editor Victoria Holmes. Omen of the Stars follows the adventures of three special cats: Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and Dovewing. They are part of an old prophecy and each has amazing powers. The series explores ideas like forbidden love and how being different can affect friendships and relationships. While the Warriors series has been on the New York Times Bestseller List, none of the books in Omen of the Stars have won major awards.

This book starts about six months after Sunrise. It's summer, and all four cat Clans are suffering from a terrible drought. In ThunderClan, two sisters, Dovekit and Ivykit, become apprentices. Dovepaw's mentor is Lionblaze, and Ivypaw's is Cinderheart.

While exploring, Dovepaw mentions seeing brown animals (beavers) building a dam up the river. This dam is blocking the water and causing the drought. No other cat believes her at first. Lionblaze soon realizes that Dovepaw is the third cat from the prophecy: "There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws." He and his brother, Jayfeather, are the other two. Each has a special power. Dovepaw's power is being able to see and hear things from very far away.

Lionblaze plans a journey up the river to destroy the dam. A cat from each Clan joins him. ThunderClan's leader, Firestar, agrees and sends Lionblaze and Dovepaw. After a first try fails and a RiverClan warrior named Rippletail dies, the patrol finally destroys the dam. They even get help from some housecats they meet.

Meanwhile, back in ThunderClan, a warrior named Poppyfrost secretly goes to the Moonpool. This is a special place for the Clans' medicine cats. Jayfeather, ThunderClan's medicine cat, follows her. At the Moonpool, Jayfeather is attacked by his half-brother, Breezepelt, a WindClan warrior. The spirit of a cat Jayfeather doesn't know, Brokenstar, helps Breezepelt. But the spirit of Poppyfrost's sister, Honeyfern, comes to help Jayfeather and chases them away.

Jayfeather tells Lionblaze about the cat who helped Breezepelt. Lionblaze then admits he has met Tigerstar, a villain from the first Warriors series, in his dreams. They realize that Tigerstar must have recruited Breezepelt to fight in a war between StarClan (the good cat ancestors) and the Dark Forest (the bad cat ancestors).

In this book, the spirit of Hawkfrost, Tigerstar's son, starts visiting Ivypaw in her dreams. He pretends to be from StarClan and teaches her battle moves. Ivypaw is still jealous that Dovepaw is keeping secrets from her. Because of this, she decides not to tell anyone about Hawkfrost's training.

The spirit of Tigerstar tells Ivypaw that giving a piece of land to ShadowClan was a mistake. He says it has made ThunderClan weak. Ivypaw believes Tigerstar. She tells Firestar that she had a dream from StarClan. In this dream, ShadowClan was invading because they thought Firestar was too weak. Firestar and his senior warriors decide to attack ShadowClan first. During the battle, Lionblaze accidentally kills ShadowClan's deputy, Russetfur. ThunderClan wins back the land.

Jayfeather accidentally enters Ivypaw's dream. He discovers that Ivypaw is getting battle training from cats in the Dark Forest. Lionblaze and Cinderheart go on an early border patrol. They meet ShadowClan's medicine cat apprentice, Flametail. Flametail is angry with Lionblaze for killing Russetfur in the last book.

Later, Dovepaw uses her special power to listen in on Lionblaze and Jayfeather. They are talking about Ivypaw's Dark Forest training. Dovepaw then confronts Ivypaw about it. Ivypaw denies that what she's doing is wrong. Dovepaw wants to stop her, but Jayfeather tells her to leave Ivypaw alone for now.

Blackstar, the leader of ShadowClan, asks Flametail and his mentor, Littlecloud, if StarClan sent them a sign about the battle. When they say no, Blackstar asks Littlecloud to go to the Moonpool. When Flametail arrives at the Moonpool, the spirit of Raggedstar, a former ShadowClan leader, tells him that ShadowClan must stand alone. He says they should not trust any allies.

In the Dark Forest, Ivypaw overhears Tigerstar telling Tigerheart that if he can't beat "ThunderClan weaklings," he is nothing. Ivypaw realizes Tigerstar lied to her. She runs away. She then agrees to become a spy on the Dark Forest for Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and Dovepaw.

Flametail falls through the ice on the frozen lake while playing with other apprentices. He starts to drown. Jayfeather tries to save him. But the spirit of Rock, an ancient cat, appears. Rock tells Jayfeather that it is Flametail's destiny to die. Jayfeather lets go of Flametail, who drowns.

Jayfeather, Dovewing, and Squirrelflight visit the Tribe of Rushing Water. This is a group of cats who live in the mountains. While there, Jayfeather has a dream from the ancient cat Rock. Rock tells him he must go to the mountains, but won't say why.

In his dreams, Jayfeather is sent back in time. He becomes his past self, Jay's Wing. He needs to convince the Tribe's ancestors to stay in the mountains. This is after he, as Jay's Wing, had urged them to journey from the lake in an earlier book, Long Shadows. Jayfeather realizes the ancient Tribe doesn't yet connect with their ancestors' spirits. He appoints the Tribe's first "Teller of the Pointed Stones," also called Stoneteller. This role is like a Clan leader and medicine cat combined. He chooses Half Moon. Then, Jayfeather returns to the present day. He appoints Crag Where Eagles Nest as the Stoneteller of the modern Tribe. This is because the old Stoneteller had died without choosing a new one.

New ThunderClan apprentices Cherrypaw and Molepaw have a dangerous encounter with a fox. An unknown cat saves them. Lionblaze investigates and finds Sol. Sol is a loner cat first seen in Eclipse. He had once predicted an eclipse, which made ShadowClan lose faith in StarClan for a while. Sol says he saved the apprentices. Some cats welcome him, but others don't trust him.

When Sol disappears, Dovewing and Ivypool follow him into the tunnels. They discover he is trying to start a fight between ThunderClan and WindClan. While spying on Sol and WindClan, a WindClan warrior almost finds them. But Hollyleaf leads them to safety. Hollyleaf was thought to have died in a tunnel collapse in Sunrise, but she survived. Before she can go back into the tunnels, Lionblaze arrives. He convinces her to return to ThunderClan.

Dovewing and Ivypool reveal that Sol is planning an attack on ThunderClan. They also tell everyone that Hollyleaf was the one who saved the apprentices from the fox, not Sol. To get ready for the battle, Hollyleaf teaches ThunderClan special battle skills useful in the tunnels. When WindClan attacks through the tunnels, ThunderClan fights them off. They win the battle because they are better at fighting underground thanks to Hollyleaf's training. Sol runs away and is never seen again.

Jayfeather receives a new prophecy. It tells him there is actually a fourth cat in the prophecy, not just him, Lionblaze, and Dovewing. Jayfeather first thinks it might be Mothwing, RiverClan's medicine cat. However, the medicine cats are divided because Jayfeather was accused of killing Flametail in Night Whispers. This makes it hard for him to talk to Mothwing.

Jayfeather is allowed to enter RiverClan territory safely. Mothwing shows him a reed that has been smoldering for days, even after heavy rain. Jayfeather takes this as a sign to find Flametail's spirit in StarClan. But the divisions in StarClan make this difficult. When he finds Flametail, he convinces him to tell the truth: that he drowned and was not killed by Jayfeather. This truth helps heal the divisions among the medicine cats. They then unite StarClan to prepare for the final battle with the Dark Forest.

Former ThunderClan leader Bluestar tells Jayfeather that the fourth cat in the prophecy is Firestar. The final battle between the Clans and the Dark Forest then begins. Both StarClan cats and Dark Forest cats appear in physical forms. The battle quickly gets out of control. The fight ends when Firestar kills Tigerstar's spirit. After this, Firestar himself dies.
