Washington is a very tall and wide tree called a giant sequoia. It grows in Mariposa Grove, which is a special forest inside Yosemite National Park in California. This amazing tree was named after George Washington, who was the first president of the United States. The Washington tree is one of the biggest giant sequoias on Earth. It is known as the 18th largest giant sequoia in the world. It is also the largest giant sequoia found north of another famous tree called Boole.

About the Washington Giant Sequoia

The Washington tree stands in a beautiful part of Yosemite National Park. It is located northeast of two other well-known giant sequoias, the Columbia tree and the General Sheridan tree. The Washington tree has a trunk that looks almost perfect. Its top branches, called a crown, are very thick and hang over its southern side.

Unique Features of the Tree

High up in the Washington tree's crown, there is a small ponderosa pine tree growing. This pine tree is about 128 years old. It is quite unusual to see another tree growing right on top of a giant sequoia's limb!

Important Note for Visitors

It is important not to confuse this Washington tree with another famous tree. There is a different tree also called the Washington Tree located in Sequoia National Park. They are two separate giant sequoias in different parks.
