The Waterford Greenway, also known as the Déise Greenway, is a special path in County Waterford, Ireland. It's perfect for cycling and hiking adventures! This path opened in March 2017. It used to be an old railway line that connected Mallow and Waterford. Now, it's a fun way to explore the countryside. The Greenway is also part of a much bigger cycling route called EuroVelo 1. This route stretches all the way along the Atlantic coast!

The Waterford Greenway is Ireland's longest greenway, stretching for 46 kilometers (about 28.5 miles)! Imagine all the places you can see. As you travel along the path, you'll cross 11 bridges and three amazing viaducts. A viaduct is like a very long bridge that carries a road or railway over a valley or river. You'll also go through a cool 400-meter (about a quarter-mile) tunnel!

Where Does the Greenway Go?

The Greenway connects several interesting places. It starts near the city of Waterford and takes you through Mount Congreve, Kilmeaden, Kilmacthomas, and finally to Dungarvan. Along the way, you'll even pass by part of the beautiful Copper Coast Geopark. This area is famous for its stunning coastline and interesting rocks.

Part of the Greenway runs alongside the River Suir. Here, you might even see the Waterford and Suir Valley Railway train chugging along on its own tracks. It's a great spot for nature lovers!

A Popular Path

Since it opened, the Waterford Greenway has become super popular! By December 2017, just nine months after it opened, more than 250,000 people had already used the path. It's a fantastic place for families and friends to get active and enjoy the outdoors together.
