Waterloo is a small village, also called a hamlet, located in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It's about half a mile north of Bankfoot, right on the old A9 road.

Why is it Called Waterloo?
People in Waterloo have different ideas about how the village got its name. Most agree it was named after the famous Battle of Waterloo. This big battle happened in 1815.
Some say the village was settled by soldiers who came home after the battle. Others believe it was built for the wives of soldiers who sadly did not return.

Children living in Waterloo go to Auchtergaven Primary School. This school is located in the nearby village of Bankfoot.
Getting Around Waterloo
Waterloo is located on the B867 road, which used to be part of the main A9. The village has one bus stop.
You can catch the Number 23 bus here. This bus travels between Perth and Aberfeldy. The bus service is run by Stagecoach.
The closest train station is Dunkeld & Birnam. It is about three miles north of Waterloo.
Staredam Standing Stones
Just outside Waterloo, you can find two ancient stones called the Staredam standing stones. These stones have been there for a very long time.
One of the stones has a cross carved into it. Experts think this might be one of the earliest examples of a Christian symbol carved on a prehistoric stone.
The Staredam stones are also mentioned in a famous book. Sir Walter Scott wrote about them in his novel The Fair Maid of Perth.
