Waterloo is a small town located in the South West part of Western Australia. You can find it along the South Western Highway, between the towns of Bunbury and Brunswick Junction.

Discovering Waterloo's Past

Waterloo was a very small place more than a hundred years ago. In 1898, the town had a population of only 41 people. This included 23 males and 18 females.

Waterloo's Future: The Wanju Project

Waterloo is set to grow a lot in the future! In December 2013, the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) decided that the northern part of Waterloo would be a new area for urban expansion. The WAPC is a government group that plans how land is used in Western Australia.

What is the Wanju District Plan?

In April 2016, the WAPC shared a first look at the Wanju District Structure Plan. This plan is for a large area of about 1,245 hectares (which is about 4.8 square miles). It shows how the new urban area will be laid out.

The name "Wanju" means "welcome" in the Noongar language, which is spoken by the Aboriginal people of this region. This new development is planned to include around 20,000 homes and create about 4,000 jobs. It's a big project that will bring many new people and opportunities to the area.
