Watkins is a small community in southeastern Benton County, Iowa, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city does. In 2020, about 116 people lived there. Watkins is located south of Vinton, which is the main town of Benton County. It sits about 830 feet (253 meters) above sea level. Even though it's not a city, Watkins has its own post office, which has been open since December 15, 1873. Its ZIP code is 52354.

History of Watkins
Watkins was officially planned and mapped out in 1874. This process is called "platting." The community was named after a man named John Burton Watkins. He was a superintendent for the Iowa Division of the Chicago & North Western Railway Company. Sadly, he passed away near the area in October 1873. He was on an inspection tour when a freight train crashed into his train.
