Welcome to Wax, a small place in Grayson County, Kentucky, United States! It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
History of Wax
Have you ever wondered how places get their names? The community of Wax got its name from something sweet and sticky: beeswax! Long ago, a general store in the area sold beeswax. People started calling the place "Wax" because of this popular product.
Exploring the Geography of Wax
Wax is located in the southeastern part of Grayson County. You can find it along Kentucky Route 88 (KY 88). This road is close to where it meets KY 479.
One cool thing about Wax is its closeness to Nolin Lake. This large lake is a popular spot for outdoor activities. Part of Nolin Lake forms the boundary between Grayson County and Hart County. KY 88 can take you east to Munfordville or northwest towards the areas of Leitchfield and Clarkson.
The Wax Post Office
For many years, Wax had its own post office. The Wax Post Office first opened its doors in 1891. It served the community for over a century, helping people send and receive mail. However, the post office eventually closed in September 1994.
