Wayne Radford (born May 29, 1956 – died January 10, 2021) was an American professional basketball player. He played as a guard for the Indiana Pacers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Wayne was 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighed 205 pounds.
Wayne was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a talented player from a young age. At Arlington High School, he played basketball for three years and was named an Indiana All-Star in 1974.
College Basketball Star
After high school, Wayne Radford went to Indiana University Bloomington. He joined the Hoosiers basketball team in the 1970s.
One of his biggest achievements was being part of the amazing 1975–76 Hoosiers team. This team made history by winning the national championship without losing a single game! They had a perfect season, which is very rare in college basketball.
Playing in the NBA
Wayne's skills caught the attention of professional teams. In the 1978 NBA draft, he was chosen by the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers picked him in the second round as the 27th overall pick.
He played 52 games for the Pacers during the 1978-79 NBA season. During this season, he averaged about 3.9 points, 1.1 assists, and 1.3 rebounds per game. He played both as a Point guard and a Shooting guard.
Later Life
Wayne Radford passed away on January 10, 2021, at the age of 64. He is remembered for his contributions to basketball, especially his part in the Indiana Hoosiers' undefeated championship season.
