A Look Back in Time

Waynetown was first planned and named "Middletown" in 1830. A person named Samuel Mann helped create the town's layout back then.

Where is Waynetown?

Waynetown is in the western part of Montgomery County. A main road, U.S. Route 136, goes right through the middle of town. This road is called Washington Street in Waynetown.

If you go east on U.S. Route 136, you'll reach Crawfordsville in about 9 miles (14 km). Crawfordsville is the main city of the county, also known as the county seat. If you go west, you'll get to Veedersburg in about 11 miles (18 km).

Another road, Indiana State Road 25, also passes through Waynetown. It goes north to Wingate and south to State Road 32.

Land and Water

Waynetown covers about 0.45 square miles (1.15 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the town limits. A small stream called the East Fork of Coal Creek flows through Waynetown. It eventually joins the larger Wabash River.

Every year, Waynetown hosts a special event called the "Fish Fry." This event also includes a carnival. The Fish Fry is very popular and brings in many visitors from Montgomery County and even from nearby counties like Fountain, Tippecanoe, and Parke.

Famous Connections

Waynetown has a connection to a very important part of American history! William Bratton, who lived from 1778 to 1841, was a member of the famous Lewis and Clark Expedition. This expedition explored the western parts of the United States.

William Bratton settled near Waynetown in 1822. He held several important local jobs, including being a Justice of the Peace. He is buried in the Old Pioneer Cemetery, which is located right in Waynetown.
