Waytani is a tall mountain located in the Andes mountain range in Peru. It is part of the Wansu group of mountains. This impressive peak stands about 5,430 meters (17,815 feet) high.
What's in a Name?
The name Waytani comes from the Aymara language. In Aymara, wayta means a special headdress. This headdress is often made from feathers or beautiful flowers. The -ni part is a suffix that shows ownership. So, Waytani means 'the one with the decoration on the head'. It's like the mountain is wearing a crown of flowers or feathers! Sometimes, you might see its name spelled as Huaytane.
Where is Waytani Located?
Waytani is found in a very interesting spot where three different regions of Peru meet. It is located in:
- The Apurímac Region, specifically in Antabamba Province, Oropesa District.
- The Arequipa Region, in La Unión Province, Puyca District.
- The Cusco Region, within Chumbivilcas Province, Santo Tomás District.
This mountain is also found south of another mountain called Chankuwaña.
