The Weinviertel is a special region in Lower Austria, a state in Austria. Its name means "Wine Quarter" because it's famous for growing lots of grapes and making wine. It's also sometimes called the "Quarter below the Manhartsberg" mountain.

About the Weinviertel

The Weinviertel is located in the northeastern part of Austria. It sits north of the big Danube River. This region shares its borders with two other countries: the Czech Republic to the north and Slovakia to the east. The large city of Vienna is just south of the Weinviertel.

What is the land like?

The land in the Weinviertel has gentle, low hills. These hills are actually the western edge of the large Carpathian Mountains range.

Why is it called the Wine Quarter?

The Weinviertel is very well-known for its winegrowing. It is actually the biggest wine-producing area in all of Austria. Many vineyards cover the hillsides here.
