Wellard is a growing suburb in Perth, Western Australia. It is located within the City of Kwinana. In 2021, about 14,127 people called Wellard home. This was a big jump from 3,246 people in 2011.

Wellard got its name in 1923. It was named after John Wellard, an early farmer who lived about 7.5 kilometers away. Before that, people called the area "13-Mile Camp."

Wellard's Community and Shops

Wellard is a special place designed to be a great community. It's called The Village at Wellard. This area is being built to include homes, shops, and community spaces. Eventually, it will have homes for about 1,700 families.

Living Near the Train

Wellard is Perth's first "transit-oriented development." This means it's built around a train station. This makes it super easy for people to get around. You can reach Perth city in less than 30 minutes by train. Mandurah is only about 20 minutes away. There are also buses that connect Wellard to bigger centers like Kwinana and Rockingham.

The Wellard railway station is right in the middle of the community. A special "Village Centre" is being built around the station. This center will have shops, homes, offices, and places for community events. You can find all kinds of homes here, from big family houses to modern apartments.

Wellard Square Shopping

A new shopping area called Wellard Square is being created. It will feel like a main street. It will connect the train station to a meeting area and a community center. A big supermarket, Woolworths, will be a main store there. Other popular shops and fast-food places will also open up.

Getting Around Wellard

The Wellard railway station is about 37.3 kilometers (23.2 miles) south of Perth's city center. A train ride from Wellard Station to Perth Underground takes about 30 minutes. Going to Mandurah Station takes around 22 minutes.
