Where Did the Name Come From?
Many suburbs in the Kwinana area are named after ships. Calista is one of them! It gets its name from a ship called the Calista. This ship was very important in the history of Western Australia.
The Calista arrived on August 5, 1829. It brought 73 passengers to the new Swan River Colony. Captain S. Hawkins was in charge of the ship. Two famous passengers were Lionel and William Samson. They helped build the early colony.
