Wells is a lovely place in the southern part of the town of Wells. It is in the southeastern part of Hamilton County. The community is built around Lake Algonquin. This lake is fed by the Sacandaga River.

The community stretches south to the West Branch of the Sacandaga River. New York State Route 30 goes right through the middle of Wells. This road leads north about 13 miles (21 km) to Speculator. It also goes south about 15 miles (24 km) to Northville.
