Wendell Davis, born on October 24, 1975, is a former American football player. He played as a tight end and fullback. He played college football for the Temple Owls.

He played professionally in the National Football League (NFL) for the San Diego Chargers. He also played in the Canadian Football League for the Edmonton Eskimos. After playing, he became a coach for college teams and teams in NFL Europe. He coached for eight years.

Wendell Davis's Early Life and College Football

Wendell Davis was born in Escatawpa, Mississippi. He went to Moss Point High School in Moss Point, Mississippi.

He started playing college football at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. This was in 1994 and 1995. He was recognized as an all-state player in both years.

Later, he transferred to Temple University. He played for the Temple Owls in 1996 and 1997. He started 11 games for Temple. He caught 19 passes for 231 yards. He also scored two touchdowns.

Playing Professional Football

After the 1998 NFL draft, Wendell Davis joined the San Diego Chargers. He signed as a free agent on April 20, 1998.

The 1998 season was his only time playing in the NFL. He played in 11 games for the Chargers. He started seven of those games. He made four catches for 23 yards.

In 1999, Davis changed his position to fullback. The Chargers released him on September 9, 1999. This happened just before the regular season began.

In the spring of 2000, Davis signed with the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe. He did not play in any games due to an injury called "turf toe." He was released after three games.

Davis signed with the San Diego Chargers again on May 9, 2000. However, the Chargers released him on August 26, 2000. This was before the regular season started.

On August 15, 2001, Davis signed with the Chargers one more time. He was released 12 days later.

In 2002, Davis played in 11 games for the Edmonton Eskimos as a fullback. He caught nine passes for 64 yards. He also ran the ball 23 times for 97 yards and scored two touchdowns. He returned three kicks for 32 yards and made six tackles.

Coaching Career

Davis started coaching football in 2004. He became the running backs coach at Christopher Newport. This is an NCAA Division III school. He coached there in 2004 and 2005.

In 2005 and 2006, Davis also coached for the Amsterdam Admirals. They were a team in NFL Europe. He was their running backs coach.

In 2007, Davis coached the tight ends for the Cologne Centurions. This was the last year NFL Europe was in operation.

Davis returned to college coaching in 2008. He was the wide receivers coach at Gannon. He went back to Christopher Newport as running backs coach for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
