Wendell Davis (born October 24, 1975) is a former American football player. He played as a tight end and fullback. Wendell played college football for the Temple Owls. He also played professionally for teams like the San Diego Chargers in the National Football League (NFL) and the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League. After playing, Wendell spent eight years as a coach for different college and NFL Europe teams.

Wendell Davis's Early Life and College Football
Wendell Davis was born on October 24, 1975, in Escatawpa, Mississippi. He went to Moss Point High School in Moss Point, Mississippi.
Playing College Football
Wendell started his college football journey at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He played there in 1994 and 1995. During both seasons, he earned special honors for being an "all-state" player.
After that, he moved to Temple University. He joined the Temple Owls football team for the 1996 and 1997 seasons. Wendell started in 11 games. He caught the ball 19 times for a total of 231 yards. He also scored two touchdowns for the Temple Owls.
Wendell Davis's Professional Football Career
After the 1998 NFL draft, Wendell Davis signed with the San Diego Chargers. He joined them on April 20, 1998, as a player who was not chosen in the draft.
Playing in the NFL
The 1998 season was his only time playing in the NFL. Wendell played in 11 games for the Chargers. He started in seven of those games. He caught the ball four times for 23 yards.
In 1999, Wendell changed his position to fullback. The Chargers let him go on September 9, 1999. This happened just a few days before the regular season began. They made this change to make space for another player, wide receiver Chris Penn.
Time in NFL Europe
In the spring of 2000, Wendell signed with the Rhein Fire. This team was part of NFL Europe. However, he couldn't play in any games because of a foot injury called "turf toe." He was released from the team after only three games.
Later, on May 9, 2000, Wendell signed with the San Diego Chargers again. But the Chargers released him once more on August 26, 2000. This was before the regular season started.
On August 15, 2001, Wendell signed with the Chargers for a third time. He was released just 12 days later.
Playing in the CFL
In 2002, Wendell Davis played for the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League. He played in 11 games as a fullback.
During his time with the Eskimos, he:
- Caught the ball nine times for 64 yards.
- Ran with the ball 23 times for 97 yards.
- Scored two touchdowns by running.
- Returned three kicks for 32 yards.
- Made six tackles.
Wendell Davis's Coaching Career
After his playing days, Wendell Davis started coaching. He became a running backs coach at Christopher Newport. This is a college that plays in NCAA Division III. He worked there in 2004 and 2005.
Coaching in NFL Europe and College
In 2005 and 2006, Wendell also coached running backs for the Amsterdam Admirals. This team was also part of NFL Europe. In 2007, he became the tight ends coach for the Cologne Centurions. This was the last year NFL Europe was in operation.
Wendell then went back to coaching at the college level. He coached wide receivers at Gannon in 2008. He returned to Christopher Newport as a running backs coach for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
