Escatawpa is a community in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. It's not an official city, but it's a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts for population, even though it doesn't have its own city government. Escatawpa is part of the larger Pascagoula area. In 2020, about 3,254 people lived here.

History of Escatawpa
The name Escatawpa comes from the Escatawpa River, which flows nearby. A post office was set up in Escatawpa in 1885. This helped the community grow and connect with other places.
In 1990, the original part of Escatawpa became a part of the city of Moss Point. Moss Point is located just south of Escatawpa. The area that is now called Escatawpa is the part that remained outside of Moss Point.
A very powerful storm, Hurricane Katrina, hit the area on August 29, 2005. It caused a lot of damage to the community. Escatawpa is also known as the hometown of the famous rock band 3 Doors Down. The community is located about six miles north of Pascagoula. Back in 1906, Escatawpa had a population of about 500 people.
Geography of Escatawpa
Escatawpa is located in the eastern part of Jackson County. It sits on the east side of the Pascagoula River. To the south, it shares a border with the city of Moss Point. The original center of Escatawpa was just north of Interstate 10.
Today, the main part of Escatawpa is about 5 miles (8 km) north of Moss Point. It is also about 9 miles (14 km) north of Pascagoula, which is the main city in Jackson County. Mississippi Highway 613 is the main road that goes through the middle of Escatawpa. Another important road, Mississippi Highway 63, runs along the eastern edge of the community.
The total area of Escatawpa is about 6.9 square miles (17.9 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 6.7 square miles (17.3 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.2 square miles (0.6 square kilometers), is water.
