Weruche Opia (born April 11, 1987) is a talented actress and businesswoman from Britain and Nigeria. She is well-known for her role in the BBC show I May Destroy You (2020). For this performance, she was nominated for a British Academy Television Award. She also won a Black Reel Award.

Early Life and Education
Weruche Opia was born in Lagos, Nigeria. When she was 13, she moved to South East London. Her father is an author and a professor of social sciences. Her mother, Ruth Benamaisia-Opia, is a famous Nigerian broadcaster and TV host.
Weruche studied drama and sociology at the University of the West of England, Bristol. This education helped her prepare for her acting career.
Weruche Opia's Acting Career
Weruche Opia started her acting journey in 2010. Her first TV appearance was in an episode of The Bill. After that, she spent a year working with the Renegade Theatre Company in Nigeria.
When she returned to England in 2012, she appeared in popular shows. These included the crime drama Top Boy on Channel 4 and the police show Suspects on Channel 5.
Rising to Fame
Weruche became more widely known for her role as Cleopatra Ofoedo. This was in the third season of the BBC comedy Bad Education. She also appeared in its 2015 movie, The Bad Education Movie.
In 2015, she was nominated for an award. This was for "Nollywood Actress of the Year" at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. It was for her part in the film When Love Happens. From 2019 to 2020, Weruche played Naomi in the sitcom Sliced on Dave.

In June 2020, Weruche Opia starred as Terry Pratchard in Michaela Coel's BBC series I May Destroy You. Her performance earned her a nomination for a British Academy Television Award. She also won a Black Reel Award for this role. In 2022, she appeared in the ITV thriller Our House.
